Comparison Analysis of Psychopathology between Soldiers Admitted for Adjustment Disorder and Normal Soldiers

Abstract
Objectives£ºDespite the fact that many soldiers have adjustment problems in military, there have been only few studies on factors of adjustment problems and no studies on patients with adjustment disorders serious enough to require admission in army hospitals. Comparison analysis of psychopathology was done between soldiers admitted for adjustment disorder and normal soldiers.

Methods£ºThe subject were 102 inpatients of Army 00 Hospital, diagnosed with adjustment disorder by 5 psychiatrists, from June 1, 2004 to February 28, 2005. Control group were 116 soldiers randomly selected from Army 00 Hospital headquarter company on December 1, 2004. The following self-rating scales were used to assess both groups£º1) K-Social Avoidance and Distress(K-SAD). 2) Barret Impulsiveness Scale 11th edition(BIS-11). 3) Symptom Checklist-90-Revision(SCL-90-R).

Results£ºThe adjustment disorder group showed significant results compared to control group in K-SAD. The patient group showed significant results in total impulsiveness, cognitive impulsiveness, motor impulsiveness, and non-planning impulsivenss compared to control group¡¯s total impulsiveness, cognitive impulsiveness, motor impulsiveness, non-planning impulsiveness. In SCL-90-R, patient group showed statistically significant results compared to control group in all subscales including somatization.

Conclusion£ºOne hundred and two adjustment disorder patients admitted in Army ¡Û¡Û Hospital showed statistically significant higher social anxiety levels and more impulsiveness in cognitive, motor and non-planning, compared to control group, and in SCL-90-R, patients group showed statistically significant results in all 9 subscales, including somatization.
